Biswell Forestry, Forestry Technician

Position is Flexible at 10-40 hours per week, 1-5 days per week (at a minimum of 4 days per month). Scheduling will be based on crew member availability and project work availability.

We are seeking qualified individuals to join our crew in: Sonoma County

JOB DESCRIPTION: This is a non-supervisory position.

The Forestry Technician crew member must be able to work independently and as a skilled member of a forest management crew engaged in fuels reduction projects, including tree falling, manual understory thinning, hand piling, pile burning, broadcast burning, fire line construction, defensible space creation and other duties as assigned.

The Forestry Technician will be asked to use a variety of hand and power tools, including chainsaws, firing devices, portable pumps and various other components of water delivery systems to support the different phases of fuels reduction projects: fuels treatments, pile burning and prescribed fire.

Forestry Technician will perform assignments such as:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Satisfies Position Qualification Requirements of a FFT2 (Firefighter Type 2); or willingness to obtain
  2. Satisfies Position Qualification Requirements of a FAL3 (Basic Faller); or completion of “Developing Thinking Sawyers” curriculum; or equivalent formal training; or willingness to obtain
  3. Wildland Fire Safety Training Annual Refresher (RT-130) training for current year
  4. Knowledge and experience operating a chainsaw safely for forestry work
  5. Knowledge and experience with hand piling and burning of slash associated with fuels reduction
